The Government has today confirmed plans for Eton College to launch a new sixth form in Oldham - and announced two new free schools will also open in Manchester. They are among 15 new free schools given the go-ahead in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the country.

Oldham is one of three Eton-run sixth forms set to open. It's hoped it will begin taking pupils in 2025.Eton College headmaster Simon Henderson said: "We are delighted by this decision. We believe these new colleges have the potential to be transformative both for the young people who attend and for the wider communities they will serve.
