Government can’t say which hospitals are affected by crumbling RAAC concrete

The Department of Health was unable to immediately guarantee that RAAC would not be used in any of the new hospitals currently being built

, known as RAAC, will be used in any of the 40 new hospitals which are promised by 2030.

It emerged last week that as chancellor, Rishi Sunak turned down a 2020 request to fund the rebuilding ofwhich were in danger of collapsing. He said that instead, the Department of Health conducted an extensive survey of the presence of RAAC in hospitals and other medical buildings before committing to new construction earlier this year.

In response to eight parliamentary questions on RAAC in hospitals, ministers said they were unable to answer on the usual one-week timescale and would instead have to take more time to find the relevant data.
