The government is considering further changes to its industrial relations bill to fix a loophole that could allow employers to cut new hires’ pay below the minimum.

The Department of Workplace Relations and Employment defended the move in Senate hearings this week as a way to avoid the Fair Work Commission getting bogged down in hypothetical scenarios, which employers argue is holding up agreement approvals. However, RAFFWU secretary Josh Cullinan said it was inevitable Labor would eventually include prospective employees in the bill’s proposed BOOT.
