The government has introduced tough new biosecurity measures to help prevent the spread of foot and mouth disease from Indonesia.
Travellers arriving in Australia from Indonesia will now have to adhere to the strict biosecurity measures at the airports.
It’s the first time the new powers have been put in place since the Biosecurity Act was introduced in 2015. Biosecurity officers will be able to order passengers to wash their shoes and use sanitising foot mats.
