An Erie man was charged with homicide by vehicle in the crash that claimed the life of Shawn Giles, 53.

The original accident happened around 12:47 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Route 20 and Brickyard Road. Giles was directing traffic in the eastbound lanes of Route 20 when Simmons, traveling at a high rate of speed, hit him., “Please keep the family of firefighter Shawn Giles in your thoughts and prayers. Shawn was tragically killed in the line of duty Sunday afternoon. We thank Shawn for his service to our community.”. Giles, goerie.
