Doctors say they are preparing to name and shame Premier Daniel Andrews and other Labor MPs on increased medical bills as part of their campaign against expanded payroll tax.
Doctors are preparing to name and shame Premier Daniel Andrews on their medical bills as GP clinics escalate their dispute with the state government over payroll tax changes.
The Australian Medical Association’s Victorian president, Dr Jill Tomlinson, said her organisation would back doctors’ efforts. “The provision of weekend and after-hours care doesn’t generate much income,” he said. “This tax stymies the provision of holistic, long-term care. These are the things we have to do to reduce our exposure.”, and the tax would only make it harder for people to afford to see a doctor. “It’s appalling,” Haikerwal said.
Tomlinson said patients in the state’s regions and in Melbourne’s western and northern suburbs would be hit particularly hard by practice closures and in medical fee hikes. She said Western Australia did not apply payroll tax to contracted GPs and amnesties were also in place in South Australia and Queensland.
The president of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Dr Nicole Higgins, said Andrews needed to intervene in the dispute.
