She is worried about how she'll survive
A 69-year-old grandmother who worked solidly throughout Christmas says she was never officially told that half a decade had been added to her working life.
Annar', who began her working life aged 14 at Woolworths, worked full shifts on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. She said: “I absolutely love my job and feel that I’m very lucky to work in a job that I enjoy, but I’m assuming that there are many women out there of the same age that don’t enjoy their jobs but they still have to work.
“I think that because I’d gone through a divorce and had to move house and everything, the pension wasn’t the priority. I was preoccupied with personal things but it was in the back of my mind, well I’m going to get my full pension because I’ve always worked, but there was a lack of clarity, lack of information about the exact date and time and there wasn’t enough information out there from the government directly to the people who were going to be involved.
Meanwhile, she also says many women of her generation are in a far worse position, due to illness or lack of financial security. She added: “A lot of women will never enjoy retirement, they didn’t get the pension, they may have worked or they have ill health. They probably ended up either stopping in the house all the time or not being able to enjoy it due to ill health.
