After spending eight years working for his family’s business, the Bill Miller Bar-B-Q chain, Douglas W. Miller II wanted to try something new.
Turns out, he found two new passions: commercial real estate and event hosting — trading brisket and chicken for buildings and church functions.
The holding company includes a real estate fund and a facility for addiction recovery, ventures Miller is working on with business partners. It also encompasses an event business. “I have an entrepreneurial spirit,” said Miller, who is a grandson of Bill Miller. “I needed to pursue that.” They demolished a dilapidated apartment building and built a roughly 14,000-square-foot venue that they named The Skyline, which opened last fall.
