However, one of the most criticized aspects of The Flash was the lack of cameos related to the Scarlet Speedster, specifically Gustin's Barry Allen from the Arrowverse. Fans have been angry about the snub before and after the DCEU film hit theaters, and many are still imagining what it could have looked like if Gustin had shown up.
@thecw_arrowverse_ recently shared a fan art rendition where Gustin's Flash crosses paths again with Ezra Miller's version of the DC speedster. The artwork imagines Gustin's character informing the other Barry about the Flashpoint - the DC storyline that The Flash movie was very loosely based on - and setting the stage for an exciting team-up. For viewers of The Flash TV show, they will recall when season 3 did its own version of Flashpoint arc for a few episodes.
The Flash movie director Andy Muschietti has spoken about why Gustin didn't appear in the DC movie. He explained, "Of course, as I said before, the list of cameos…was huge. So obviously we played with the idea of including DC characters from TV, but we just had to pick," which was received with backlash, especially as the movie included a non-actor-specific Jay Garrick and an extended sequence of Cage's Superman that could have been shorter.
Time will tell whenever the fastest man alive will be back on the big screen as James Gunn's DC Universe gets launched through DC Studios. Hopefully, if there is another multiversal The Flash project, whoever is in charge creatively will find a way to give Gustin the cameo that he should have had in the 2023 film. For now, Gustin's role in The Flash or any other DC movie will have to stay limited to fan edits and imaginations.
