Queensland's Great Barrier Reef export fishery licence has been cancelled by federal Environment Minister Sussan Ley after the state government failed to deliver a sustainable fisheries strategy required by Commonwealth law.

Federal Environment Minister Sussan Ley has revoked the export licence of the Great Barrier Reef commercial fin fishery. The Australian Marine Conservation Society and WWF Australia have campaigned against the fishery, arguing it did not have the promised sustainable fisheries strategy, which was due in January.Ms Ley said the strategy was a key condition of a deal struck between the federal and state governments in 2018 to license the export fishery's international wildlife trade rights.
