of her goals for Friday’s Class 4A girls state swim meet at Josh Davis Natatorium.Gomez and Maddie Mealey each won four gold medals to lead Great Hearts Monte Vista to the Class 4A state title.
Gomez won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.80 seconds and the 100 free in 52.66. She also won gold in the 200 and 400 relays. “My team is so amazing, it’s like a family. I came here my freshman year, and I made like 20 friends,” Gomez said. “I’m pretty hyped. I didn’t quite meet my goal time, but it’s the fastest I’ve got all season. I’m a lot closer to it than I’ve been all season, so I’m pretty happy.”
Candace Alford, Holly VanderWeele and Mealey joined her in the 400 relay, posting a time of 1:58.92. In the 200 relay, Gomez teamed up with VanderWeele, Sophie Murgo and Mealey for the gold.
