Great Waters' newest album is the culmination of years of creation as a self-taught musician.
Musician John Guido, who performs as Great Waters, released his debut record “Little Doors of Paradise” in July.
“I’m really not a great guitarist. I’m not really a great musician in any one instrument. I kind of do all of them good enough,” Guido admitted. “And so on my record, I played everything and kind of took that approach of like, I need to just express myself on any instrument as best as I can and we’ll see what happens from there.”This can be heard within the first notes of the album on the track “Birth,” which begins with a deep sigh.
“I’ve always connected to melodies on a really deep, kind of spiritual level,” he said. “I never listen to lyrics usually because the melodies are just too overwhelming when I hear them. And that’s where part of my brain is going, trying to hear and understand what playing, but also just the kind of emotional experience of a really powerful melody.”
