Green charities so white Just 1.8 percent of staff in environmental charities are black, a new survey finds
Racial diversity is hard to spot in the UK environmental movement A survey of 94 environmental groups bycampaign found that just 1.8% of total employees were of African, Caribbean or black mixed heritage.
Organisers of the poll said that it was likely the sector was even less diverse because of non-responses from 84 groups who signed up to the campaign to ‘look good’ but failed to provide data on their own charity.pledgedThe Marine Conservation Society, which received publicity over that initiative in February 2021 failed to respond to the latest survey.
Overall, the green groups employed 7% people of colour – half the national proportion – and 5% in senior management roles. But the green charities were doing just as poorly on black representation at board level as they were in employing staff .
