Angelica Di Camillo, an environmental engineer, has been announced as the Greens candidate for Prahran, replacing Sam Higgins. She faces a tough contest against the Liberal Party in this upcoming inner-Melbourne by-election. Di Camillo criticizes the major parties for their lack of action on climate, housing, and cost-of-living crises.
The new Greens candidate for Prahran says she's expecting a "tough contest" against the Liberal Party for the inner-Melbourne seat, which will be up for grabs at an upcoming by-election.
“I put my hand up because I'm frustrated by the lack of action we’re seeing from the two major parties,” Ms Di Camillo said, flanked by Victorian party leader Ellen Sandell and senator Steph Hodgkins-May. Mr Hibbins said he "absolutely disputes the sequence and detail of the events" and that it differed from the version of events put to him by the Department of Parliamentary Services when the former intern made a formal complaint in 2018.Mr Hibbins's departure has triggered a by-election for the inner-Melbourne seat, which is shaping up as a two-horse race between the Greens and the Liberals.
Ms Di Camillo, a St Kilda East resident, was the party's proposed candidate for the federal seat of Higgins before the Australian Electoral Commission announced it would be abolished ahead of the 2025 election.
