Greens Leader Adam Bandt will seek an amendment in the government’s October budget to ensure they “don’t spend a penny” on coal and gas, according to Sky News host Chris Smith.

“It’s the demonisation of both those power sources that get us into this situation we’re in, in Queensland, this afternoon,” he said. It comes as Queenslanders are being asked to limit their electricity use from 5pm Monday evening, due to the Australian Energy Market Operator forecasting a shortfall in power supply.

Queensland’s power infrastructure body, Powerlink, released a statement asking citizens to limit electricity consumption by turning off devices where possible.
