Greens reveal plans to make public education free and give $800 per child for school fees in event of hung Parliament
Greens Leader Adam Bandt announced the policy alongside education spokeswoman Penny Allman-Payne at a press conference on Wednesday. Mr Bandt claimed the government could afford the $10 billion expense and emphasised it was a “costed policy”. Australian families have been paying about $500 per student in voluntary public school fees, according to the Greens.
While the minor party argued that the policy is a necessary response to the growing financial pressure on parents, the government has shrugged at the announcement.
