At different points during Friday’s case management hearing — which Justice Richard Danyliuk kept open to the public — Danyliuk, Crown prosecutor Cory Bliss and Little all advised Fertuck of the benefits of having a lawyer, but Fertuck remained determined to “go it alone.”Article content Defence lawyers Mike Nolin and Morris Bodnar, who represented Fertuck for years, withdrew after learning he hadagainst them mid-trial that questioned their competence and professional integrity. Fertuck has specifically expressed frustration in open court about his bail application being abandoned in 2020.
The withdrawal hearing happened before lawyers could make arguments on the trial’s global voir dire, or admissibility hearing, which includes information gathered from a 10-month undercover Mr. Big Sting that led to Fertuck being charged in 2019. Danyliuk must decide if he will admit it as evidence at trial.
