There is a prospect Lynn will be returned to the community at some point so it's important the risk of reoffending is low. Lynn also apologised to his family for the "pain and shame" they have suffered as a result of the trial. But given the appalling nature of his actions, the effect can only be "modest" at best, the judge says.Lynn has no prior conviction and Justice Croucher says he has a strong history of employment and made a significant community commitment.
"I think that just as one person to another, as a matter of common decency, I should acknowledge their plight, their agony, their suffering," he says.Justice Croucher says Mrs Clay died a violent and brutal death and the killing was a "grave example of murder."Mr Lynn must have known her loved ones would suffer distress, he says.
