Grey’s Anatomy season 19, episodes 14 and 15, which aired as a two-hour event, was Maggie’s last as a series regular after almost 10 seasons, and it was just what she deserved. Kelly McCreary’s exit was announced about a month before the episodes aired, making her the second main cast member to leave the series in Grey’s Anatomy season 19 after Ellen Pompeo left in the winter premiere.

Maggie’s Grey’s Anatomy Farewell Episode Highlighted Her Best Qualities While Pompeo’s farewell episode was slammed by longtime viewers, McCreary’s did her and the character of Maggie justice by centering her and her best qualities. Grey’s Anatomy season 19 has seen Maggie struggle with her ambition, particularly how it affected her marriage with Winston, who felt as though she didn’t respect him as a doctor and always put her career above their relationship.
However, while Maggie is not perfect, she inherited Ellis’s best qualities, the ones that made her a world-renowned surgeon: her ambition and her commitment to saving lives. Maggie has often been compared to Cristina due to both being cardio surgeons and Maggie being her replacement at Grey Sloan. Both of them have been portrayed as highly ambitious women who will put their careers above all else, for better or worse, and have been criticized and celebrated for it.
