For the first time, NSW has revealed the disturbing demand on ICU beds that’s expected when the Sydney outbreak finally reaches its peak.

For Covid patients alone it will peak at 560 people in ICU beds in October. However, the total number of people in ICU including non-Covid patients will peak at 947.

It also predicts daily cases in local government areas of concern will rise to over 2000 in coming weeks. There were 1281 cases in the last 24 hours. “In the LGAs of concern, cases are expected to continue increasing until mid-September , when sufficient vaccine-acquired immunity kicks in,’’ it warns. In other words, if restrictions are released prematurely in local government areas where the virus is in the community, those daily cases could rise.

“Achieving uniform vaccination in the LGAs of concern is critical as vaccination rather than reduced infection numbers will be the intervention that leads to a fall in hospitalisations,’’ it warns.
