The Guardian has come under fire for “inverting the narrative” on Israel’s attempts to secure the release of more than 200 hostages taken by Hamas during the terrorist group’s bloody attacks.
Hamas is believed to be holding 212 people hostage in Gaza, individuals who were seized at gunpoint in the surprise attacks on October 7 that killed at least 1,400 people including women, children and babies.
But the article has been roundly attacked, with a spokesperson for the Australian Jewish Association accusing the Guardian of misleadingly implying Israel, rather than Hamas, is the barrier to the hostages’ release. “The coverage of left-wing media outlets like the Guardian, BBC and Australia’s ABC has been riddled with inaccuracies and bias and has inflamed violence worldwide,” he said.
The Guardian’s headline was also attacked on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, with one user accusing the newspaper of “inverting the narrative by passing it through a post-reality lense.” CNN reported on Sunday the Biden administration had pressed Israel to delay the ground assault on Gaza to allow time for the release of more hostages, shortly after the release of two US citizens who were among those taken by Hamas.
