Josh Naylor has returned from the injured list and will bat third for Cleveland in the series finale against the Rays.CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Guardians will get an unexpected offensive boost for Sunday’s series finale against the Rays as Josh Naylor has been activated from the injured list and will bat third as the designated hitter in manager Terry Francona’s lineup.
The club optioned outfielder Oscar Gonzalez to Triple-A Columbus to make room on the active roster for Naylor’s return. Naylor, 26, missed 31 days and 29 games after straining his right oblique muscle on a swing against Houston. Naylor was third in the American League in batting average at the time of his injury and his 79 RBI are still a team high for the season.
Naylor appeared in three rehab games for Double-A Akron last week and was expected to play one more game Sunday before determining his next steps.
