Manchester City left it late to beat newly promoted Sheffield United 2-1 in the absence of manager Guardiola

Manchester City made it three wins from three in the Premier League but they did not have it all their own way at Sheffield United.

However, the Norwegian's effort struck the inside of the post as the Bramall Lane faithful jeered. It was threatening to not be Haaland's day but he eventually opened the scoring just after the hour mark as Jack Grealish's cross was hung up for the forward to head in. Juanma Lillo's change in approach City fans have come to expect a certain level of enthusiasm on the touchline with Pep Guardiola a Jack-in-the-box inside his technical area. Lillo seemed reluctant to follow suit in the boss' absence, remaining seated throughout the first 45. However he was a different man in the second 45. He was a bigger presence on the sidelines as City finally managed to get past their opponents.

City players receive some love While Haaland and Grealish took up the familiar roles of pantomime villains at Bramall Lane, two City players received much more love from the home fans. James McAtee's name was cheered twice by the Blades fans as it was read out over the tanoy system.
