A Missouri couple charged for brandishing guns during a Black Lives Matter protest outside their home tell the Republican National Convention that they had a 'God-given right' to defend themselves and their property.

They've actually charged us with a felony for daring to defend our home."Soon after the charges, the couple's attorney said they were long-time civil rights advocates and supported the Black Lives Matter movement. "The most important thing for them is that their images [holding the guns] don't become the basis for a rallying cry for people who oppose the Black Lives Matter message," Albert Watkins said.St Louis prosecutor Kim Gardner said the pair's actions had risked creating a violent situation during an otherwise nonviolent protest.
"It is illegal to wave weapons in a threatening manner — that is unlawful in the city of St Louis," she said.Instead, he says his focus is on ending systemic racism inside law enforcement agencies.Watch
