Passing motorists applied tourniquets to the woman’s legs until police and paramedics arrived, authorities said.
A woman inspecting damage to her car after a fender bender was critically injured Wednesday when a third vehicle ran into her car and a minivan, pinning her between the vehicles, Gurnee police said. The woman, a 44-year-old Gurnee resident, was transported to the hospital following the 7:54 a.m. accident on Grand Avenue at Lawson Boulevard, police said. The woman was eastbound on Grand Avenue when a 2008 minivan struck the back of her 2019 BMW X3, police said.
The woman got out of her car, and was standing between the rear of her car and the front bumper of the van, when a third vehicle, a Nissan sedan, ran into the back of the minivan. The force of the collision pushed the van forward, pinning the woman between the minivan and her car. Police said the driver of the third vehicle failed to notice that the minivan and BMW had stopped in the road after the initial accident.
