NRL: Bulldogs general manager Phil Gould took questions from the media following the Josh Addo-Carr drug test incident.
Bulldogs general manager of football Phil Gould has clarified details around Josh Addo-Carr’s alleged failed roadside drug test , after the winger stood himself down from this week’s finals clash with Manly. However, under the RLPA CBA, Gould revealed the Bulldogs, or the NRL’s integrity unit, are unable to stand Addo-Carr down themselves until the results of that secondary test are delivered, which could take up to two and a half months.
Addo-Carr missed the Bulldogs’ Round 27 loss to the Cowboys through injury, with Gould revealing the winger was in Cameron Ciraldo’s 17 until late on Thursday, raising doubts about the timeframe for when the winger could’ve allegedly taken an illegal substance. However, those results may count for little stating: “How much weight that carries I don’t know, because if he had this substance in his system before the weekend it may be out of his system before then.”
Gould added: “For that to be in his system on Friday night he’d have to have some time last week taken cocaine, which stays in your system for 48 to 72 hours. Well three of those days he was here training or he was doing community work, or something.” “There are degrees of truth and Josh in his own way felt that this matter wouldn’t be raised again when he left the scene on Friday night.”
