Phil Gould has cast doubt on Valentine Holmes’ chances of making it in the NFL 9WWOS
“Some of their kickers are former soccer players and AFL players and things like that. So, if you’ve got an ability to kick, you’ve got an ability to play AFL on one play here and there in a game.
“I know Fatty was saying the other night [on 100% Footy] that he would make a great receiver. Well, I just can’t imagine that he would learn the game well enough or to be able to play the game at that level in that position. If he does, he’s obviously quite freakish.”Holmes made a fractious exit from the NRL when he decided to pursue the NFL, given he had a year remaining on his Cronulla contract and was deep in negotiation with both the Sharks and Cowboys for a new multi-million-dollar deal.
“Good luck to him , I hope it all works out. I don’t mind watching people pursue their dreams. If it’s their dream, if they’re really passionate about it, why not?”Yet Gould revealed that overseas sports were increasingly competing for the hearts and minds of young Australian talent, given how easy it now is to watch from afar.
