Payne Haas has given his word that he will stay put at the Broncos less than a week after requesting an immediate release.

Payne Haas and Broncos hierarchy have agreed to put off contract negotiations for at least the rest of 2022, less than a week after the NSW Origin star requested an immediate release.that meetings between Haas’ camp and the Broncos have the club increasingly confident the star prop will see out his deal, on its current terms, until its expiry at the end of 2024.

Rather, the 22-year-old has sought a shorter, three-year upgrade that would take his salary to $1 million over the next two seasons and up to $1.2 million in 2025, with team-based performance clauses included. The club baulked at matching the seven-figure asking price for Haas’s schoolboy teammate David Fifita when the Titans came calling two years ago and is still smarting from the repercussions of long-term, lucrative deals for Matt Lodge, Tevita Pangai jnr and Anthony Milford.
