AFL: Crows coach Matthew Nicks has explained the decision behind axing Crows young gun Josh Rachele for their Round 24 clash against Sydney.
Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks has explained Josh Rachele was dropped due to not upholding club “values and standards,” but stressed it had nothing to do with his cheeky Showdown antics.after he made headlines in the lead into last week’s fiery Showdown for comments that Power fans “don’t have many teeth.”
“It’s about values and the standards we are looking to uphold consistently. Essential to that is being team first, so Josh and I have had a number of conversations,” the Crows coach said. Crows teammate Rory Laird on SEN this week said Rachele’s comments in the lead into the Showdown “misaligned” with the club’s values, while Demons legend Garry Lyon warned Adelaide against dropping the youngster amid fears it could fester into the off-season.
“There are a lot of things Josh is doing that we love. We love his energy and enthusiasm, he brings an incredible passion to our group. “Josh knows I’ve got his back, I’ll always have Josh’s back. When a kid has a tough time, there’s a lot of attention and noise around him,” Nicks said.
