AFL: Swans star Isaac Heeney cut a dejected figure after his Swans experienced yet another Grand Final defeat.
Sydney star Isaac Heeney ’s bid to nurse a stress fracture in his ankle through the finals series came undone when a heavy tackle late in the first term of the SwansThe 28-year-old, who enjoyed an outstanding season prior to another grand final disappointment , finished the match on the bench and struggling to move as his dreams of winning a premiership were dashed again.
“I had to get through the week and I felt good going into the game and then I hurt it when I got run down and got tackled late in the first. He was able to kick a goal against the tide in the third term and finished with 14 disposals in a bitter end to what has been a grand season.The Sydney champion said the club needed to review the grand final capitulation in detail given it followed a similar 81-point thumping from Geelong in the 2022 decider.
“We will be back bigger and better and this team is a very united group, so the good thing about that is that we love each other and we will be back next year ... more mature and with a better understanding as to what happens with things don’t go your way, where do you go from there?”Heeney, who finished in fourth position in the Brownlow Medal, had been superb through the finals series prior to the disappointment on grand final day.
