Common hair products were linked to an increased breast cancer risk, a new study says.
Adrianna RodriguezWomen who use hair dye and chemical straighteners have a higher risk of developing breast cancer than women who don’t use these common hair products, according to new research.
According to the American Cancer Society, studies have researched the possible link between hair dye use and cancer for many years. However, the results have varied. Dr. Megan Kruse, a Cleveland Clinic breast cancer medical oncologist, said the study sample could have affected the results. The study's authors note in their findings that they didn't ask women what kind of hair dye products they used. Kruse believes this could have accounted for the large racial disparity in the results as white women typically use different hair products than women of color.Starting anew:However, hair dye isn’t the only commonly used hair product that could be a cause for concern.
