ATHERTON — Half Moon Bay doesn’t necessarily want to just run the football only. But head coach Keith Holden isn’t a fool.
“Damn, that’s hella,” Half Moon Bay’s Owen Miller said when told the rushing yard total. “That’s a lot. That’s a lot.” The heaviest load on the ground came from senior PJ Modena, who finished with 30 carries for 161 yards and two touchdowns, plus a two-point conversion run-in. Perhaps most impressive: Modena was never tackled for a loss.
Half Moon Bay quarterback Liam Harrington added 86 yards on nine rushes in the first half before he left the game because of a possible head injury. Miller stepped in at quarterback, though his role as the fill-in is rather simple. But the Knights got off to a strong start in this game thanks to senior Ty Richardson. On the third play of the game, Richardson intercepted the first of Half Moon Bay’s four pass attempts on the day and ran it back 33 yards for a touchdown.
