SAN ANTONIO — When a new class of students comes to Hallmark University for orientation, Joe Fisher asks them a question: How many of you are here because you love school so much?“We know why they’re here — so that they can further their career and live the American dream,” he said.

As a result, students can graduate in 28 months with a bachelor’s degree or in 38 months with a bachelor’s and a master’s, Fisher said. The tuition amounts to $7,470 a semester for the aeronautics program and $9,540 for the other programs, with lower rates for active-duty service members. This month, the university is celebrating the grand opening of its 20-acre campus on Westover Hills Boulevard on the West Side. It conducted a $5.5 million renovation of a former call center, outfitting it with classrooms, a student center and a mock hospital full of high-tech mannequins that can simulate medical situations for nurses in training.

You may have noticed, we only have four schools. We could have many more programs and many more students, but the part of our mission that calls us to develop superior skills, knowledge and character, that word “superior” means that we expect to produce a better graduate than anybody else. For us, the primary customer is the employer, right? Our students are customers, but our definition of “primary customer” is the customer that’s always right.
