Residents of one of Western Australia's most disadvantaged towns say community interests have been sidelined amid infighting.
A Halls Creek Shire media statement says an investigation has found former CEO Phillip Cassell broke rules around conflicts of interest and misuse of funds.Residents, including the CEO 's supporters, want the shire to release the full investigation, which has been handed to the Corruption and Crime Commission.
"The most serious charges against Mr Cassell relate to his misappropriation and mismanagement of shire funds, as well as his hiring of contractors whom he had prior, undisclosed, personal relationships with." "I did not personally benefit from any of these actions and if calling endeared colleagues 'peanuts and hobbit' are of such great concern to the council, I believe the Halls Creek community should have serious concerns over their governance."
Mr Green said he felt the celebratory tone of the shire's statement was premature, in the absence of any formal findings against Mr Cassell."They need to at a minimum release the report. It needs to go through court processes, trial, and evidence assessed before the judge makes a position on what's presented.""So we all think it shouldn't happen and there are bigger things to worry about in Halls Creek.
"A couple Saturdays ago when I was in Halls Creek, simultaneously about five stolen cars were out on the streets, and that remains a big concern in town," he said."Coordination between agencies and more sensibly spend all those millions of dollars that are being allocated for Halls Creek," he said.
