Robert Watson's side thumped Livingston 6-2 in their opener on Sunday
Hamilton Accies Women got their SWPL 2 campaign off to a dream start as they thumped Livingston 6-2 at New Douglas Park on Sunday.
Lauren Evans levelled for Livingston with a header in 30 minutes, but Accies regained their lead before half-time when Hannah Coakley fired in the first of her double after a corner landed at her feet. Watson said: “You want to get off to a win on the first day of the league, and that’s the first time we’ve been able to do that in a couple of years.
“We had goals throughout the team. Hannah Coakley was an unlikely source too – she didn’t score the whole of last season, she only scored one goal for the club prior to that. Watson added: “I’m pleased that we’re second in the league, but the biggest message we’ve been giving to the players is don’t worry about what anybody else is doing and only focus on ourselves. If we keep winning games we’re going to be in amongst it at the business end of the season.
