The weather forecast for the 2022 Hangout Music Fest includes a distinct possibility of rain. It’s a rain-or-shine event, so what happens when storms roll in? There's a plan.

Published: May. 20, 2022, 5:46 a.m.

As of Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service prediction for coastal Baldwin County predicted a mostly cloudy Friday, with a “slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon” as well as potential wind gusts up to 25 mph. The word on Saturday was “Showers and thunderstorms likely” with a rain chance of 70 percent. Sunday was worse yet, with showers and thunderstorms likely and a 90 percent chance of rain.

“We have extensive protocols around weather and will be paying very close attention throughout the weekend,” said festival director Reeves Price. “If we need to implement any form of response we will be prepared.” As the festival site is set up, Brown said, “Every stage, every tent, every big structure” gets a third-party inspection to verify that it is ready to stand up to specified conditions.

“It’s not just random, like let’s look around and see what it looks like and make a decision.” said Craft. “It’s become pretty sophisticated.”
