Tournament organisers have ordered the field back on course at dawn as they desperately try to avoid an approaching tropical storm in the final round

Hannah Green stands to win Australia’s first Olympics golf medal if the final round of the women’s tournament is wiped out, with organisers to send the field back out just after dawn to dodge an approaching tropical storm.

It has raised the prospect of Green, Inami, New Zealand’s Lydia Ko and Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen all receiving a medal if the leaders can’t start their last round on Saturday. Tournament organisers had already flagged earlier in the week the event could be cut to 54 holes with adverse weather forecast.

Green rolled in from three metres for par on the last to cap a tidy four-under 67 on Friday, lifting her to within five shots of America’s Nelly Korda . India’s Aditi Ashok is outright second. “[Korda’s] the one that probably has the most pressure. She’s been leading the tournament for the last couple of days. She obviously had a great round [on Thursday] and it is hard to back it up.“I think I’m going to have to shoot something similar to the last couple of days, especially with Nelly. She hits it so long and maybe five or six under could possibly get me a podium finish. I’m not going to try to think about it too much. I’ll just try to post another good number and see what happens.
