The Jets open 2023 with the eyes of the NFL focused on their training camp. Why run from the fun?

Well, look, that aside, the last thing the Jets want is more eyeballs focused on their preparations for the most anticipated season in a decade. So, please, ignore the new double-decker grandstand and super-sized bleachers that they’ve erected alongside the practice field. The sitting area even has a new canopy, which means the Jets, while promising an all-business approach to the summer, are quite literally throwing shade at their fans.

But, believe it or not, there are other ways to define a successful season. Is a team fun to watch on gameday? Is there an anticipation that builds each week during the season? This is the entertainment business, after all, and while the Jets won’t be favored to reach Las Vegas in February so long as Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are in the AFC, it will be a major upset if they are not compelling theater this season.

“My expectation is the Super Bowl. That’s just me,” said Reed, who along with Sauce Gardner gives that defense one of the league’s best corner combos. Maybe those “Hard Knocks” cameras will become a headache. Chances are, though, that they’re just going to create more buzz about a team that figures to be among the most watched in the NFL from now until it takes its final snap. That’s what happened the last time the Jets were interesting enough to be on the show, back when Rex Ryan won over fans when he told them to “go eat a snack.”
