The President immediately endorsed his former running mate, with a number of high-profile party members, and potential rivals including California Governor Gavin Newsom, soon following suit. Polling from the Associated Press earlier on Tuesday had suggested Vice President Harris was close to securing the 1,976 delegates needed to ensure she was confirmed at the party's convention next month.
