After more than a year of anticipation, Second Street finally opens to two-way traffic.
Second Street in Harrisburg opens to two way trafficA two-mile stretch of Second Street through Harrisburg’s Midtown and Uptown neighborhoods transitioned to two-way traffic at noon today.
The new road configuration added lanes in each direction between Forster and Division streets. There are also now roundabouts at Verbeke, Reily and Kelker streets, which city officials hope will slow traffic and make uptown and midtown safer. The number of traffic lights on Second Street dropped from six to two between Forster and Division streets.“In the past this has been a racetrack,” Bullock said. “We have to stop.”
