Public hearings on the NHS response to the pandemic will take place as voters go to the polls if Rishi Sunak goes for an autumn election
Laurence Fox should pay 'at least six-figure' fee in damages, High Court told
It is understood that the timing of Lady Hallett’s hearings is fixed and will not be moved regardless of the election date – even if it means the Conservative Government’s record on the NHS during the pandemic will be placed under scrutiny as never before, just as voters are deciding whether to give the Tories a fifth term in office.
Inquiry insiders said the public hearings will force the country to have a “difficult conversation with itself about the NHS” and whether the health service, which was applauded weekly by Britons on their doorsteps during lockdown, could be held in the same esteem as before the virus hit in 2020.
