The AFL’s trade period may be over but the wheeling and dealing is not done, with North Melbourne, Melbourne and Hawthorn trying to tempt West Coast into trading away the No.1 draft pick – and first rights to teen sensation Harley Reid.
None of the hopeful suitors were able to satisfy what seem hefty demands from the Eagles who remain undecided on whether to keep the pick or if Reid is even their first choice selection.
“We‘re of interest obviously because we’ve got a hand that could potentially turn their head,” Kangaroos list boss Brady Rawlings said.“We’ve got five picks inside 18. If we sit and take those, we’re going to get some good players.“No bones about it, we‘d like pick 1. I think everyone would. Rawlings conceded something “pretty pointy” would be needed to get West Coast to the table having knocked back offers from North and the Hawks during the trade circus.
