Hawks act on young gun after meeting with rival skipper; Bombers’ Pick 1 plans — Trade Whispers

Dear is weighing up his future and strong interest from Melbourne, with the Hawks’ looming acquisition of Ben King set to push the youngster further down the pecking order. The Demons have reportedly tabled Dear a four-year deal and star skipper Max Gawn recently met with the 21-year old.

“He seems like a great fella, and hopefully he wants to play at the Dees. ” According to Seven’s Tom Morris, the Hawks recently improved the financial offer of their two-year deal as they try and fend off Melbourne’s interest.

“We’ve been having ongoing positive conversations with Calsher and his management, even including obviously this week,“ Hawthorn list boss Mark McKenzie said on AFL Trade Radio. “We’ve had an offer on the table, but that’s a continuous chat that we have. I think in these cases it doesn’t surprise us that clubs have an interest in him as a young key-position player and at the same time he wants to play more senior football.

“We think he can be a great long-term key-position player for our footy club. He had a bit of a late entry into the Talent League, then showed what he can do at AFL level in that first year.

“He’s had some interruptions injury wise the last couple of years, but we’re very excited where he can get to with a full pre-season, which he’d be ready to do this year. “Very much in constant contact with his management, you would’ve thought it was in the short-term in regards to a decision being made and we’re just keen to hopefully make sure that it’s us.

” Dear played in Box Hill’s premiership side after he finished the season outside the AFL team. He played five senior games in 2026. AFL Media reports the Bombers are expected to hold the prized first overall selection, having put a big price on its value after being open to rival offers. But with other clubs unlikely to reach that asking price, it’s expected that Essendon will pick first in the draft.

It comes with Dougie Cochrane , the likely No.1 pick, and Cody Walker set to draw early bids in the draft. Which is why there’s been talk the Bombers could look to split their pick and move down the board, with the possibility their selection will fall to No. 3 if Cochrane and Walker draw bids with the first two picks.

GWS is eyeing ex-Blue Alex Mirkov and Hawthorn’s Ned Reeves to shore up its ruck stocks with Kieren Briggs bound for Richmond. According to AFL Media, Mirkov has undergone a medical at the Giants and could be an option as a delisted free agent or through the pre-season supplemental selection period. The 26-year old played for Williamstown this season after he was let go by Carlton at the end of 2024 after no AFL games.

Meanwhile, GWS has also asked the question of Reeves, who’s contracted at the Hawks until the end of 2029.in the Bulldogs’ looming Zak Butters deal, with a view from clubs that the forward could be squeezed out of Whitten Oval.

“The Bombers have had an interest in Laitham Vandermeer as a potential option ahead of the Trade Period,” Beveridge said on“And I’m watching Port Adelaide as well. I think they’ve got a tiny bit of interest in him and that could evolve given the Zak Butters trade and how that looks and that situation in the ongoing negotiation.
