Until their last quarter fadeout, Hawthorn tackled hard, chased, put pressure on their opponents at every turn, worked as a unit, and took their chances whenever they presented, with the excellent Luke Breust topping their scoring list with three goals. This time they were the hyped up Hawks and it was them, not the lacklustre Lions, who looked like the team in pursuit of a top four finish in the first quarter.
Hawthorn hustled and harried, chivvied, challenged and chased, particularly in the midfield, as they gave the Lions no peace in a frenetic opening period in which Jaeger O’Meara got involved early and Breust, metronomic with his set shot kicking, struck twice as the underdogs got on top.Brisbane coach Chris Fagan gave his Lions something of a rev-up at the first change and demanded more effort and enthusiasm - but the results were only mixed.
