Exclusive | Two well-placed sources, with knowledge of the investigation, have confirmed the AFL is moving to wind down the probe into alleged racism.

North Melbourne coach Alastair Clarkson, Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan and former Hawthorn welfare manager Jason Burt are likely to be exonerated by the AFL, as the league moves to wind up the independent panel investigating allegations of historical racism.but not authorised to speak, confirmed the AFL was moving to end the panel’s investigation, having concluded that Clarkson, Fagan and Burt have no case to answer based on available evidence.

Clarkson, Fagan and Burt are unlikely to take part in a proposed mediation in Adelaide next Tuesday. At this stage, there is no mediation next week because the AFL is moving to shut down the panel’s work, one of the sources said. Hawthorn, which commissioned the original Phil Egan cultural safety review that detonated the scandal, still has the option of reaching agreements with the First Nations players and their partners who participated in the panel’s inquiry, which has stretched from late last year until this week. This could include financial settlements or expressions of regret about their trauma.
