Hayley Williams on embracing “mod style” on her new Paramore tour. Plus, the singer reveals what you can expect from her tour with Taylor Swift next year.
Since late May, rock group Paramore has been embarking on their new North American tour. Lead singer Hayley Williams and band members Zac Farro and Taylor York have been performing new songs from their latest album,, as well as their smash 2000s hits such as “Misery Business” and “The Only Exception,” among others. For Williams, the continuing interactions with their diehard fans has certainly been the highlight—no matter which city they’re stopping in.
Though it’s hard for Williams to pick favorite nights of the summer tour thus far, the shows at Madison Square Garden in New York, at the beginning of the tour in late May, makes the cut. “For night two, we made a new best friend because David Byrne rode his bike to our show,” says Williams. “He came and watched us play, and hung out after the show.
It’s a sentiment that’s certainly been present throughout the tour. Describing her current stage style as “1960s Alfred Hitchcock-meets-Stanley Kubrick,” the singer says she has been gravitating towards shorter, mod silhouettes. “I like a lot of leg. I’m a very short person, so trying to get my Tina Turner on every night, I need the hemline to be at my hip bones,” says Williams. “I’ve also found that I feel happier when I’m wearing color. I don't love wearing black as much as I thought.
