According to officials, Wright was receiving treatment at Ascension Seton Hays Hospital on Monday when he assaulted a Hays County corrections officer and then attempted to flee through the hospital’s emergency room. Wright had been incarcerated at the Hays County Jail. Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler said the “officer discharged his firearm and struck the inmate.” Hospital medical staff began life-saving measures that were unsuccessful, he continued.
According to the sheriff’s office, Wright had been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, bail jumping, failure to appear, reckless driving, criminal mischief and evading arrest and detention.
