Anne has carried the memory of the North Shore Rapist, his blade pressed against her throat, in silence for almost 30 years, refusing to be publicly bound to her attacker or defined by his crimes.revealed court orders allowed Graham James Kay to secretly rejoin society despite multiple new attacks, Anne knew the state’s politicians, judges, and public needed a reminder – his were not victimless crimes.
“You go through every single detail, from where you were standing to what he did, what he said, everything about him. It’s horrendous – and he doesn’t have to do any of that.” Anne was one of the three women whose charges were dropped in exchange for Kay’s guilty plea. Her decision spared herself and all the other women involved from years in the courts, including gruelling cross-examinations.
The North Shore Rapist should be in Anne’s past, she says, but she was shocked to pick up a copy of theAnne was disturbed by the latest round of reporting on Kay because, first, it revealed Kay had been released last September after the 2022 attack to an undisclosed location. Kay has spent the last four years known in the courts as “GJO” – a pseudonym given to him by a judge to protect his identity and allow him to reintegrate into society without public attention or media scrutiny.
