Police officers have braved rising floodwaters to save a man as his ute was swallowed by a climbing river. 9News
One officer picked up a rock while the other two used their batons to smash into the car.
"You just don't know what is under the water, crossing fences you couldn't even see.. at one point we were swimming across a lake," Probationary Constable Ryan Blume-Poulton said.The officers tried to smash the window to get the man out.They tried to smash the window with no luck before noticing the door was cracked.
"I noticed the door had been cracked, he had tried to open it, enough to get our fingertips in and we managed to open the door," one of the officers said.The rescue took seven terrifying minutes before police brought the man to safety."We needed to get to him, that's what we are there for, that's what we signed up for, he needed us and there was no one else," an officer said.
