This time last year, Connor Watson wasn’t sure if he would ever play in the NRL again. Now he’s in the frame for an unlikely State of Origin debut.
Connor Watson has emerged as a genuine Blues bolter, just months after overcoming a career-threatening injury that sidelined him for 558 days.
However, the form of Watson for the resurgent Roosters has catapulted him into the frame to make his debut in game one at Accor Stadium. The 27-year-old has been a revelation since making his return from a ruptured patella tendon in his knee suffered late in the 2023 pre-season in round three. “He’s a world-class player, he has been for a long time,” said Roosters forward Victor Radley. “He obviously had that last year off with injury, and you almost forget, and then he’s just come in and just done what he does again.“He needs to be on the field, that’s kind of the be all and end all, because he’s a weapon and he’s been a weapon for us, he’s been leading our whole team.”
